Extension Notary is built around one principle: your data stays on your device.
01What we collect
Nothing about your browsing or your identity. Extension Notary does not create an account, does not track you, and does not upload your data to any server.
02What the extension stores (locally only)
The following are stored only in your browser's local storage, on your device, and are never transmitted:
- A snapshot of your installed extensions (name, version, declared permissions, install type), used to detect changes.
- Your settings, chosen language, and “marked safe” list.
- A local history of extension changes and, if you enable AI Guard, a local log of warnings (which site, and which type of secret was detected, never the content itself).
You can delete all of this at any time using “Delete all my local history”.
03Reading your extensions (management permission)
Extension Notary reads the list of your installed extensions and the permissions they declare, in order to explain them and track changes. It can enable or disable an extension only when you explicitly click to do so. It never uninstalls extensions and never sends this information anywhere.
04AI Guard (optional)
If you turn on AI Guard, the extension reads the text you are typing into AI chat sites (for example ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity) in order to warn you, locally, before you send a secret such as an API key or password. This happens entirely on your device. The text is analyzed in memory and immediately discarded. It is never stored and never transmitted. Only a local record of “a warning occurred on site X for type Y” is kept on your device.
05Network requests
The extension makes no network requests for its core features. The only outbound request happens if you choose to tap “Join the Pro waitlist”: the extension sends an anonymous increment or decrement to a counter hosted on Google Firebase Firestore, so we can gauge interest in paid features. This request contains no personal data, no identifiers, and no page content, only a change to a shared number.
06Data sharing
We do not sell or share your data. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, or any purpose unrelated to the extension's function.
07Permissions summary
- management, storage: base permissions, used as described above.
- scripting, alarms, notifications, and host access to AI sites: optional, requested only when you enable AI Guard or Auto-monitor, and removed when you disable them.
- firestore.googleapis.com: optional, requested only if you join the Pro waitlist.
